Friday we drove down from LA to San Diego and stopped for lunch in La Jolla. It's a beautiful place.
This seal was sunning him(her?)self and rolling around like a dog rolling in the grass. He was completely enjoying himself until those kids got too close then he swam away, to everyone's disappointment.
A very lovely day indeed.
So here I am in LA. My computer says it's 8:51. My body says it's 8:51. But my cell phone and the daylight outside belay that information.
How very confusing.
I left my house at 9:00 a.m. this morning and here I am, 8:51 p.m. by my time, finally arrived at my hotel. I don't have anything against California, but doesn't it seem like I should be somewhere more exotic than LA after 12 hours of travel time? It takes less time to get to Paris from the East Coast than to another state in our own country. That's just wacked.
I'm going to try to stay up until 9:00 p.m. local time in an attempt to acclimate to this timezone somewhat.
I am allergic to my hotel room. Hmf. Why do they insist on spraying them with perfume after they clean them? Uck. Hopefully it will fade or I will be a stuffed up mess while I am here.
A random picture of the Las Vegas airport. I was going to put some quarters in a slot machine, but they don't take actual money - you have to go buy tickets to use in the machines. That's WAY too much work to throw away my money, so I passed.
I am rambling about nothing. Really I just wanted to show off my knitting.
The socks - 6 hours from Philly to Las Vegas. The red is the back of a cardigan for my goddaughter - 1 hour from Las Vegas to LA.

The toothpick is my cable needle. Normally I cable without a cable needle, but on a gauge that fine I just don't think it's a sane idea.
Now I have to decide if I should eat dinner or if the meal I had mid-day WAS actually dinner. It's all so very confusing.

We had fun. We are exhausted. We also saw the Dixie Stampede Christmas Show which was very fun but I wasn't allowed to take pictures of it & we spent lots of time with DH's family which I didn't document and which we don't usually get to do, so that was very nice. (Run-on sentence anyone?) As you can see, they kept us quite busy!

Today we got back from a fun but completely exhausting 48 hours in Orlando. We went to have a little fun & spend time with DH's family, various second cousins of his live in the area, and one who was visiting that he hadn't seen in 20 years (!!!). Friday night we went to Sleuth Mystery Dinner Theater, which was hysterical & alot of fun.
Saturday we went to Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure. I had never been to either. It was a lovely day, highs in the 60's and the family we were visiting kept trying to give us parka type garments to wear, it was pretty funny. I was perfectly comfy in short sleeves and a light sweater. I never thought of North Carolina as 'cold' until now!

I came back absolutely exhausted, but I have issues sleeping in new places, so DH isn't as worn out as me. I"m just counting the hours until bedtime.
We had a great trip, our hosts were delightful & arranged everything for us, all we had to do was show up!
As far as travel knitting goes, here's my progress:
The RSC socks in a plain 2x2 rib, I'm about 2/3rds of the way down the foot.
I know this isn't the greatest picture of this sweater, but you can really see how nicely the cables stand out when the flash isn't washing it out.
I'm about to start the pockets in another inch. I may actually get this thing done so I can wear it once or twice before the season is over.
OOH, and we got home, and what to my wondering eyes should appear? A package from the Loopy Ewe! Excellent! Now I have my size 5 metal needles & I can start fighting with lace again whenever I want. AND of course I didn't order from there without getting some sock yarn...
