Please pardon my intermittent posting, my blogging mojo seems to have abandoned me. It's not that I don't love you guys, it's just that it seems to take energy I don't have lately. Maybe it's work, maybe it's my allergies dragging me down, maybe I just don't have as much to say, I'm not sure.
At any rate, spring is here, alive & kickin'. Actually, it feels more like summer, but there are blooms a'plenty.
Those tulip magnolias are my favorite blooming thing in spring time by far and in my neighborhood there are oodles of them! Okay, maybe not oodles, but at least 6-7 trees that are as tall as the 3-4 story buildings and they are GORGEOUS. They entrance me as I walk by, I stare up at the tree framed against the sky and stumble along the sidewalk. Almost missing little beauties like this.
Last weekend when I was getting out my spring knits I ran across the yogini bolero, knitted in brooks farm something or other that is a wool/bamboo blend that my fabulous friend Heather gave me for my birthday. I tried to love it, I really did, but when I took it out this year I realized that I just didn't. It didn't work. Or maybe I just don't love cropped tops. Whatever it is, I adore the yarn and I knew I had quite a bit leftover, so I set about to make it into something I loved.
I ripped out the collar and hem ribbing, cast on along the front to join the two sides. You can see the difference in the washed fabric compared to the new fabric there.
I indulged in a bit of waist shaping, I wasn't sure it needed it, but to be completely honest I wasn't sure how far the yarn was going to go, and I figured the waist shaping would give me a few rows with less yarn and that was good.
I had to cannibalize the sleeves to get enough yarn to finish the body leaving them at bracelet length, which I'm not really a fan of, so I may shorten them into 3/4 sleeves after I wear it and see what I think.
The U-neck is really deep, deeper than I ever would have made anything intentionally, but I think it works. It's comfy, has a little style with the funky ribbing, and over all should be a good spring/fall transition sweater.
It's amazing how little time a sweater takes to knit when the raglan shaping & sleeves are already knit! ;-)
Wow, very nice refashion! It came out so cute!

Gorgeous photos of springtime in Philly! Magnolia trees always make me smile. I think the lengthened Yogini is a huge improvement -- it looks great and much more wearable. Plus it would have been awfully sad to have all that lovely Brooks Farm yarn languish unworn...

Versatile, too - wear with long sleeved top or wear with cami.

I love it! That's an excellent re-vamp, and I bet you'll wear it a ton. I also love those tulip magnolias -- so beautiful.
