In December when we were visiting over Christmas I got this fabric & book to make a One Block Wonder quilt.
This weekend we spent the afternoon at my Dad & Stepmom's so she could help me get started on this quilt, it requires two people to set up the fabric to cut. After an afternoon over there I put my blocks up on her design wall so we could see what they looked like.
Here they are up close.
These pictures are a little washed out, but I had to lighten them up so you could see the detail. Isn't it fun? I really think this is just such an ingenious technique.
I didn't really mean to start two quilts back to back, I will go back to my grandmother's & finish that one before I continue working on this one, but I got it all cut out & started, so it's definitely next in line!
We had very little down time this weekend, but it was good busy, not bad busy. Friday night we went out to dinner with friends, Saturday we spent the day at my dad's & then had fantastic Indian food that night, Sunday (today) we spent the first half of the day moving things around in the house, getting a little more organized and coming to grips with the fact that we need to get rid of a few more pieces of furniture to really fit comfortably in this condo. The end result is that the den will feel less claustrophobic and we should stop stubbing our toes in the living room, so it's all good. Then we went to see The Happiness Lecture this afternoon - it was very good, very unusual, but very good.
Whew. I'm worn out. Too bad tomorrow's not a holiday, eh?
Now I"m going to sit down and attempt to finish my Goddaughter's sweater, I think I've got my brain wrapped around what needs to happen with the seaming. If I do, there will be an FO post soon!
I love those colors -- all lovely sepia tones. I can't wait to see how the quilt turns out... It sounds like you've had a busy weekend, but the kind where you feel good at the end of it. Enjoy your afternoon!

how did you do that? Hmm....I must learn that technique. I have an impossible quilt pattern at home which looks like its based on the same principle. Was it difficult to cut?

I love your quilt squares! I've never tried that technique; I'll have to look that book up if I ever get back to quilting. The colors are beautiful, and the patterns work so nicely with the design. Who'd have thought you could get that much pattern out of hexagons?
