We are on the other side of the holiday season, I hope you all enjoyed as lovely a break from the day-to-day as I did.
After all the busyness of the fall, the moving, the traveling and visiting and the being visited, I craved this winter break more than I can adequately put into words.
I think I can finally say that I am caught up on my sleep for the first time since about July (at least until last night, but New Year's Eve doesn't count, right?), I have had the mental energy to organize all my knitting books and patterns, including marking all the patterns I have in paper and digital copies of "In Library" in Ravelry so they are searchable AND going through years of back Inteweave Knits and Vogue Knitting and ripping out the patterns I am interested in keeping so I can scan them in and the magazines have already gone off to be recycled. WHEW. That was a big one. This was made wayyyy easier by the fact that you can go through the magazines on Ravelry and see all the patterns in each edition, it isn't necessary to physically flip through them to find what you might want to keep.
I have decided to discontinue both subscriptions, now that they make the patterns available individually online I can just buy a pattern if I really want to make it. I will miss the articles, but there is such a wealth of information in various online formats that I don't think I'll miss out on anything I can't find elsewhere.
Also, I have sooo many great books that I should be knitting from I don't need the "ooh shiny!" distraction of the magazines.
I have also started playing with my camera again. I decided to sign up for a weekly photo project on Google plus for 2013, there are themes each week, and hopefully that will keep me motivated to take pictures and continue learning about photography, the camera, and evil, super un-userfriendly photoshop.
These fireworks are the first we have seen from the roof deck on our new house, and I have to say, I am THRILLED that we can see them!! I used my camera in bulb mode last night to take pictures of the fireworks and I got a few decent ones and learned quite a bit about how to do it better next time.
I wish you all a happy, healthy new year!

Those are amazing photos! (And I admit that I'm glad to hear that other people find photoshop less-than-friendly - I don't get it at all...) I'm wildly impressed with your pattern organization, too - what a great way to manage the back issues of magazines.

That's the view from your roof deck?!? Wowza! That's sublime.
I've let my subscriptions lapse, too, though I still have the magazines organized in my knitting bookshelf. Scanning them is a great idea.
Hurray for taking a holiday break, and all best wishes for 2013.
